Where are you looking?

Post by Pastor Demetrius Hicks

Where are you looking?

There’s been so much going on internally and externally in this season of life for me. I’m constantly in the process of sanctification like everyone else. I’m a leader, friend, brother, single guy who is learning to love himself well and a host of other things. I oftentimes wear the pressure of thinking I have to have all the answers. I have a deep desire to help people but sometimes at the cost of neglecting myself. In a recent melt down, it was revealed to me that I have battle scars from fights that weren’t even mine. Yes, it’s good to love people and care for them but you can’t over do it as I am guilty of so many times. We all have the desire to be spoken well of and seen in a positive light but don’t allow that to make you become someone’s source. I was reminded the other day of a sweet passage of scripture in Psalm 121. What a beautiful reminder that I am not the superhero and don’t have it all under control. I need help and the only help that’ll work is that of the Lord. As you read this, think about who your source is. Where or what do you run to in the heat of the moment? Do you find yourself trying to protect yourself? Let this psalm wash over your soul and remind you where to look.

Psalm 121 English Standard Version (ESV)

My Help Comes from the Lord

(A Song of Ascents)121 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. 8 The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.
